There is something about a woman on a telephone that has always fascinated me.

The pause before she picks up. The composed expression that gives nothing away. The voice traveling somewhere unseen while she stands perfectly still, perfectly present, perfectly in control of a conversation the viewer is not allowed to hear.

I created Dialing Back because I kept returning to that image of the mid-century woman at the telephone and realizing it was never really about nostalgia. It was about power. The particular kind of feminine power that lives in patience, in deliberate presence, in the choice of exactly when to speak and what to say.

Each painting in this series transforms the vintage telephone into something more than a period object. It becomes a metaphor for ambition, for distance, for the invisible emotional threads that connect us to the people and futures we are reaching toward. These women are suspended mid-conversation, poised between vulnerability and absolute control. They know something you don’t. They always have.

The palettes move between soft blush florals, cobalt depth, and saturated mustard warmth. Bold enough to command a room, considered enough to reward a longer look. The brushwork is expressive but never careless. Every gesture is intentional. Every unanswered call carries weight.

Dialing Back is for collectors who understand that the most powerful stories are the ones you can’t quite hear. The ones happening just out of frame, in a voice you will never know, on a line that goes somewhere only she can follow.
